MCNEVINS MARYBOROUGH MOTEL - Destination information

Maryborough developed as a port on the Mary River, serving first pastoralists who arrived in the 1840s, and then goldminers , sugar growers and timber-getters, the town’s sawmills supplying much of Queensland by the end of the century. An impressive number of the buildings remain from those early days, many of which can be viewed on heritage drives and walks. Highlights include the Wharf Street Precinct, with its well-preserved warehouses, and numerous classic Queenslander homes, including Mavis Bank (256 Queen St.), whose iron-lace fretwork, woodwork, coloured glass, period furnishings and artworks can be inspected at first hand.

Maryborough also has some attractive open spaces, including Queens Park in Sussex Street, first planted in 1864, and the Elizabeth Park Rose Gardens (Kent and Tooley Sts.). Every Thursday a bustling outdoor market operates in Adelaide and Ellena Streets, offering arts and crafts, fresh produce and plants for sale.
