Historical Buildings and History

The City has retained some fine sandstone and timber buildings from the 19th century, including the police station and the splendid 1880s railway station. A plaque at the station commemorates the occasion in 1917 when a demonstrator threw an egg at Prime Minister Billy Hughes; outraged by the fact that local constables refused to arrest the offender, he promptly formed the Australian Federal Police force. Other early events are documented at Pringle Cottage (81 Dragon St), which houses a fine collection of relics from the pioneering days, while the Jackie Howe Memorial (Cunningham Hwy) honours the famous “gun shearer” who in 1892 shore 321 sheep in one day.

Annual Rose and Rodeo Festival

Held every year during the whole month of October, leading up to the famous "Warwick Rodeo" on the last full weekend in October.
